You can enter the St. Gerald’s Stock Competition from today (December 19th).

The competition ends on March 16th 2012 and the winner will receive a €50 voucher.

Follow these instructions to join the game:

1. Go to www.marketwatch.com/game

2. Click on Login

3. Register an account with the website. Use your school email address …@geralds.ie

4. Once you have registered with the MarketWatch website, log into it. Go to Find a Game.

5. Search for the game called “St Geralds Stock Competition”.

6. Join the game. The password is stgeralds

4A4 Stock Competition Winner!

Congrats to Robert Comer (4A4) on winning the Stock Competition in Module 1 with a total profit of $133,779 (a return of 13.78% in just 6 weeks).

There were some big changes on the leaderboard in the last few days of trading due to volatility in world stock markets.

In order to see how well you have done, you can compare your total return to the Dow Jones Industrial Average. Our competition started on 15/09 and ended on 27/10. During that period, the Dow Jones increased by 8.55%

You should compare your percentage total return to this 8.55%. Both Robert and Ronan Jennings had a total return that beat the Dow Jones. The majority of professional traders do not achieve this!

4A4 Stock Market Competition

The stock market competition for 4A4 starts on Thursday September 15th.

To join the competition:

Go to www.marketwatch.com/game and click on Join Now to create an account with MarketWatch.com
Enter your school email address as the username.
Enter a password that you will use to log into the site.
Follow the instructions on the MarketWatch website

Once you have successfully created a user account with MarketWatch, log into the site and then click on Find a Game.

The name of the Game is TY Stock Market M1. Enter the game name in the Search box.

You will be asked for a password to join the game.

This has been sent to your Google Apps email account.

Now you are ready to start trading in stocks on the NYSE.

This is the link to log into the game each day. Add it to your favourites on your home computer.

The third sgcbusiness.com Stock Competition is now open for registration.

The competition starts on Wednesday March 17th and ends on Monday May 17th.

What are the rules?

You have $1,000,000 to invest.
You can only trade in stocks on the New York Stock Exchange.
You can sell short.
You can set a stop loss on your trades.
You may only enter the competition once.
You must use your first name and surname when registering.
You can enter anytime up to Monday May 17th.

How do you enter?

Go to vse.marketwatch.com and register.
Then send an email to vse [at] geralds [dot] ie to get the password to join the game.

What are the prizes?Cash prizes for the top 3 traders.

1st Place: €25
2nd Place: €15
3rd Place: €10

The second sgcbusiness.com Stock Competition is now open for registration.

The competition starts on Friday May 1st and ends on Friday May 22nd.

What are the rules?

You have $1m to invest.
You can only trade in stocks on the New York stock market.
You can sell short.
You can set a stop loss on your trades.
You may only enter the competition once.
You can enter anytime up to Friday May 22nd.
There is a prize for the best trader.

New Stock Market Competition

Well done to Fifth Year students, Darragh Cuddy and Shane Reilly, who have just set up a private game on a virtual stock exchange website. They are making this game open to all students in St. Gerald’s.

All you have to do is set up an account which only requires an e-mail address and join the game. It’s a pretty easy site to use. The game runs from tonight until New Year’s Eve and each player get $1,000,000 to start off with and can join anytime from now until then.

Game ID:Castlebar (this is case-sensitive)
Game Password: The password has been changed. Email vse [at] geralds [dot] ie to get the new password.

You should take part in the competition. It’s a great way to test your stock trading skills.
