in my opinion i think the budget was very hash for over 70s,they will loose there medical card, and the rich pensioner who can well afford to pay for presciptions had a medical card, but i think the middle class pensioner will get to keep it.they should of took the medical card off the rich before the recession developed.whats wrong with the government!!!!!

I agree with most of what your saying Donal but you have to remember, This is done to allow the expense for people that really need it,i mean half of the elderly go to the hospital just for a cough, now some may argue with me and i would just like to say, Research the plans the government made.
The rich can be worse of than some.

The government had no right what so ever to target the republic of Ireland and make us suffer for their mistakes, however, We all knew this would happen.
we just have to get on with things

I understand where your coming from, you’ve got the right idea
    Heads up

im still not quite sure whats happening with the medical cards!!!
i just get the feeling with this budget, that the working class are being crushed. the government have made a new tax on income, 1% of everyones yearly pay as far as i no, if a person is earning €2000 a week €20 would be nothing to them as they would never spend €2000 in a week (a built up of €20 every week for the government would be good for bringing in money).
on the other end of the scale a person living on the minimum wage earning €300 a week will almost certainly spend the full €300 and therefore will lose out on €3. i disagree with this because the government will raise very little funds from the people on the minimum wage yet its causing these people to give away money they need to live.

Daragh,This 1% levy applies to every working in Ireland, as you stated some people will be on 300euro a week, You have to remember, once people know about this, it automatically reduces spending for the economy.
Its a phycological thing. once people know they are losing some of their money,it will have an affect on the economy, i personally am on more than 300 a week and even though im a student,i will be cutting back on goods/services that are not required.

The economy is in a bad state and unfortunately it is only going to get worse.

Everything the government could put up in taxes, is gone up

i dont understand how you think its a phycological thing, i mean when people see there losing money they have less of it to spend, therefore causing more unemployment and making ireland an unattractive to set up business.
i belive the government were wrong in bringing in this tax, it shows the people of ireland how desperate this government is, and how badly there handling the situation in ireland
