Well done to the winners of the TY Stock Market class competition. The winner from 4A3 was Keith Fehilly and Patrick Collins was the winner with the best overall portfolio in 4A6.
This year was the first time ever that all portfolios in both classes showed a loss. You would expect this given that October was the worst month in history for world stock markets. When evaluating the performance of each portfolio, you always compare to the market return in the same time period. In October the Irish market fell by 24.6% and the UK market declined by 18%.
So, Patrick’s return of -13.99% and Keith’s return of -18% have beaten the market. This is an excellent performance given that 90% of fund managers do not beat the market.
Maith an fear, Patrick…great to see useful life-skills like stock investing covered on the TY programme..you will be the next David McWilliams yet!
Well done Patrick, impressive I have to say. Next Year’s hot tip to win the Apprentice!
Well done Mr Collins. I see you have beaten the market. I suggest you continue to study the form as I believe the markets are springloaded on the upside for the coming year. WB
