Subject Choice for Fifth Year

It’s that time of year again and Transition Year students have to make their subject choice for Fifth Year by May 1st.

If you are considering doing Economics for the Leaving Certificate then you should read a previous post on the blog on Why study Economics?

Maybe current students of Accounting, Business and Economics could give their views on the subjects by commenting on this post?

If you have any questions on these subjects then just post them in the Comments section.

Business is a very interesting subject lads, and the fact of the matter is,its such a common need today.
Weather you’d like to do it for a leaving certificate subject or not,Its worth taking up.Jump at the opportunity because i assure you. You will benefit from it once you get into the real world.

Also consider doing economics as it is an understanding of the world you live in. From the news you watch on tv. to the worlds professionals talk. you’ll understand everything and will be able to handle anything which is thrown your way, therefore you will accomplish great things and achieve your most.

Just think about it lads,It’s what you’ll face for your LC. for two years.

Word of advice: Keep upto date with subjects and get into the routine of it,because if you don’t you’ll lose interest. Once that happens…

I chose both Economics and Business for my L.C and at the moment am quite happy with my decision. There is alot of overlap between the two courses which is always a benefit.

I have to say that Economics is my favourite of the two. If you have any interest in politics, finance, geography and current affairs then Economics will be very interesting. It is said to be a hard subject to get an A1 in and I would probably agree with this. It is vital to have an understanding of the course rather than learning it all off as the Macro-Economic questions cover a wide range of topics.

Regarding Business Studies, it’s much the same as the J.C course. I didn’t do J.C Business but lads in my class say its very repetitive. It’s a really easy subject to understand, everything is more or less black and white. Where you would revise certain sections or topics in the likes of Economics or Maths, in L.C Business you basically learn off the whole book, simple as that. It’s an interesting subject if you’d like to be involved in the running of a business but at times the course is very repetitive and kind of drags on.

So that’s my take on my subject choice, and hopefully I’ll do well in both!
