Is this Price Discrimination?

O2 will release the iPhone in Ireland on March 14th. It’s only available to postpay customers on the O2 network. The 8GB model will cost €399 and the 16GB will cost €499.

The iPhone has been on sale in the UK with O2 since 2007. Here’s a comparision of the o2 Ireland versus o2 UK iphone tariffs:

8GB €399 16GB €499
€45 – 175 mins, 100 texts, 1GB data
€65 – 350 mins, 150 texts. 1GB data
€100 – 700 mins, 250 texts, 1GB data

8GB £269 (~€352) 16GB £329 (~€431)
£35 (~€47) – 600 mins, 500 texts, unlimited data
£45 (~€60) – 1200 mins, 500 text, unlimited data
£75 (~€100) – 3000 mins, 500 texts, unlimited data

Both handsets and the monthly tariffs are cheaper for UK consumers. UK consumers also get more minutes and a bigger data allowance per month.
